The first VIVA conference was held on the Gold Coast in September 2009. The idea for the conference was generated by a few virtual assistants who thought that there was a need to provide an opportunity for virtual assistants from all over Australia and the world to congregate and learn about the vital issues that affect virtual assistants and their clients.
After receiving great support from the wider business community in the form of sponsors, traders and speakers, the conference came into being and over 80 Virtual Assistants attended the first conference in 2009 which was a resounding success.
The conference organizing committee is made up of volunteers from the VA industry and we would like to acknowledge their support . All profits of the conference go into the fund to help build the next year’s conference. Participants should be confident knowing that their support will help raise the quality of the conference each year.

Liz has over 20 years experience in running conferences of all shapes and sizes, from smaller 1 day conferences with less than 50 delegates to week-long conferences with over 800 delegates. Liz wholeheartedly supports the VIVA Conference because of the value the event brings, not only to individual virtual assistants, but to the industry as a whole. The first conference in 2009 demonstrated how the conference not only helped to improve VA skills and abilities but also increased the status of the industry in the wider business community. “It was as if people took more notice because there was enough support to run a conference” Liz said. |

After eleven years working in brand management in a corporate environment Nicola's priorities changed. She had started a family and migrated from the UK. She did not want to commute or put her children in daycare 12 hours a day but nor did she want to give up her career. The answer, become her own boss and become a VA! She has been a VA for three months now and I is loving the balance and confidence it brings, especially with the support she gets from the 121 Temps network. Nicola offers marketing services to small to medium businesses. Nicola feels that the VIVA conference will be an excellent forum to meet fellow VA's and compare notes about this exciting life style choice. |

Four years ago my two grown children moved out and I found that was the perfect time to use my 20 years experience in administration to be my own boss and concentrate on the things I did best and enjoyed most. I have a vast amount of experience in the marine and education industries and government sectors. I have found my niche in the VA market and I now write Procedures Manuals for companies looking to enhance professionalism and profitability. I also work closely, in a variety of facets, with those setting up franchises. To further my personal work-place experiences, I am an active certified workplace teacher in Cert III and IV in Business Administration. |

Susanne established her VA business edos Ewingar Document & Office Services in 2007 and was the Program Co-ordinator for the first VIVA Conference in 2009. Building on a successful career in the corporate arena of the Queensland public sector, Susanne entered the virtual business world when she relocated to her rural property in Northern NSW. No longer satisfied with the demands and life style of being an employee in a large organisation, Susanne is now using her writing, extensive administration and business support skills to assist her clients to achieve their goals. Living 30km from the nearest village on top of a hill, Susanne appreciates the advantages of operating a business from home to conquer the geographical and cultural divides between city and country folk. edos has recently been selected by the local Council as a case study to contribute to the publication of the 2010 Living the Dream magazine, aimed at attracting more residents to the highly diverse local government area. |

Being new to the VA industry Helen found VIVA 09 an excellent source of information and support and is keen to bring the message to others either just starting out in the industry or considering being a VA. With an eclectic range of skills and abilities Helen’s passions are training, delivering training both in-house and over the web, and information management. The best thing about being a VA – “freedom to choose the work I do and the hours I do”. The challenges of being a VA – “keeping a straight face on the phone with my dogs climbing over me because they have decided it is play time!” |
